About Fiona
Fiona grew up in Britain and settled permanently in Australia when she and her husband Bill were married in 1974. Fiona developed her love of gardening when she and Bill moved to the country in 1979. At first she found making a garden in a climate with hot, dry summers and frosty winters hard, but over the years she got to know plants that would survive and flourish and gradually her garden grew and developed into the vision she dreamed of.
Wanting to share the knowledge she had painstakingly acquired, Fiona started writing a weekly column for The Land in August, 1995. Her column was an instant success and has won her a wide readership among rural gardeners and land dwellers in New South Wales. In addition she contributes to Hands On in the quarterly gardening magazine Your Garden. Fiona has written a book about the garden she made on her farm and is putting together a collection of columns.
Fiona loves gardening, writing and travelling, visiting gardens in Australia and overseas, and hunting for unusual plants in nurseries and in the wild.

Welcome to my Website!
It’s dedicated to gardeners who love to read about gardens. This has been a busy year for the garden as we opened it for Bathurst Garden Club Spring Spectacular in October. This was followed by our daughter Olivia’s wedding to Nick Hutchinson-Smith (who drew up the plan of the garden in my book A Country Garden) in November. Of course we wanted the place to look its absolute best and it was a lot of hard work, but we had so much fun and both the garden opening and the wedding were fantastic weekends!
No peace for the wicked though as Bill is fond of telling me - our younger daughter Dominique and Barton Hoyle are getting married in March, and then - yes you’ve guessed - we’re opening again for the Bathurst Garden Club on w/e 30/31st October, 2010. See www.bathurstspringspectacular.com from early 2010 for details.
Next year will be even busier as I’m taking three garden tours for Renaissance Tours. First up China on 26 March, then Bali in July and Tasmania in November. Click on Tours for details, or go to www.renaissancetours.com.au. |
